As a Málaga local guide, my story began with a very basic compact camera. Of course, it used film—we are talking about the early 1990s. That was when I began taking my first photographs, although everything changed dramatically when I moved on to an SLR camera.

Around the same time, a weekly collection featuring some of the world’s great photographers began to be published. I still remember being just eighteen, saving whatever money I could and waiting eagerly for each new issue to arrive at the newsstand.

That small window into the work of the great masters opened the door to my first serious steps into photography. It was not long before I arrived at the School of Arts and Crafts in Málaga, the only place where I could continue developing what would later become my profession.

It was probably one of the most creative periods of my life. Experimenting with other artistic disciplines and sharing ideas with other students allowed me to bring together many of the interests that would eventually lead me to dedicate myself fully to photography.

Those early experiments also made me realise that photography would never be the only language through which I expressed myself. Over the years, I found new creative tools in graphic design, interior decoration and, later on, theatre. Each of them has played a part in helping me continue growing professionally.

A Friend in Málaga brings together many of the things I feel most connected to. On the one hand, it allows me to create short videos where I use both images and my own voice to introduce places and experiences that can capture the attention of visitors.

For me, it is also about meeting a real need. Travelling has always been one of my greatest passions: discovering other cultures and finding those special places that are often known only by local people.

That is exactly what this app is designed to offer. A Friend in Málaga brings together places of interest across gastronomy, museums, shopping and local culture, as well as charming and lesser-known corners that go beyond the usual tourist routes.

Every image tells a story. Every route creates a feeling. If you manage to see Málaga through my eyes, then the app will have fulfilled its purpose.
